C-SPAN TO AIR SAME-DAY RECORDINGS OF U.S. SUPREME COURT ORAL ARGUMENTS IN TWO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CASES ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 4 AT 11:15 A.M. ET

C-SPAN, C-SPAN Radio and C-SPAN.org to Air Oral Argument Audio Immediately and in its Entirety

WASHINGTON - On Monday, December 4, at 11:15 a.m. ET, C-SPAN, C-SPAN Radio and c-span.org will begin airing the Supreme Court oral arguments of two affirmative action cases that the Court is scheduled to hear that morning: Parents Involved v. Seattle School District No. 1 and Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education. C-SPAN regularly makes requests to the Supreme Court for the same-day release of oral argument recordings that meet the court's standard for heightened public interest, and wrote to Chief Justice John Roberts asking for the same-day release of the audio recordings for Monday's cases.

Both cases address whether race can be considered when assigning students to public schools. The recordings are available to the media and will air on C-SPAN, C-SPAN Radio and C-SPAN.org as the Court releases the audio, 15 to 30 minutes after the conclusion of each one-hour oral argument.

For more than 20 years, C-SPAN has supported initiatives that increase and encourage greater public access to the Supreme Court, including televising Court proceedings. A new C-SPAN Web site, www.c-span.org/camerasinthecourt, chronicles C-SPAN's early involvement in the issue and features a collection of public statements made by the Justices regarding cameras in the court. Additionally, copies of C-SPAN's correspondence with the Court, congressional testimony and links to related legislation are featured.

C-SPAN Radio is heard nationally on Sirius Satellite and XM Satellite Radio and in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area at 90.1 WCSP-FM. The audio recordings will also be archived online at www.c-span.org on the "America and the Courts" page.

C-SPAN, the political network of record, was created as a public service in 1979 by America's cable companies. C-SPAN is currently available in 90.7 million households, C-SPAN2 in 82.1 million households, and C-SPAN3 in more than 12.2 million households nationwide.
