C-SPAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION WITH (Name of Local Cable Company)
OFFERS FREE AMERICAN PRESIDENTS TIMELINE
TO (Name of Service Area) MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS
Tens of Thousands of Posters To Be Distributed Nationally

WASHINGTON, DC, OCTOBER, 2002 - The C-SPAN Education Foundation along with Name of local cable company has launched an initiative to put C-SPAN's American Presidents Timeline into middle and high school classrooms across the Name of service area-area. Nationwide, the Foundation plans to distribute tens of thousands of posters free to teachers for their classrooms.

C-SPAN's American Presidents Timeline is a six-foot poster portraying the public service careers of the 42 men who served in the Oval Office in the context of a timeline of events and images from American history. Designed for use in high school or middle school classrooms, the poster is available to teachers at no charge when they register at C-SPAN in the Classroom's website, www.c-span.org/classroom

The American Presidents Timeline is complemented by the americanpresidents.org website which offers extensive resources -- 100-plus hours of video related to presidents, biographical information, a virtual tour of presidential and vice presidential gravesites, and a dedicated search engine for locating presidential places such as birthplaces and homes.

At a glance, the American Presidents Timeline allows students to compare and contrast presidents' paths to the White House and place their lives in the context of American history. For example:

  • The similarities and differences between the career paths of Ulysses S. Grant and Dwight D. Eisenhower;
  • The identity of the first president born in the United States;
  • The number of future presidents who served alongside John Quincy Adams when he returned to the U.S. House after his presidency.

    C-SPAN in the Classroom is a free membership service dedicated to helping educators use C-SPAN programming in their classes or for research.

    The C-SPAN Education Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation created in 1993 to promote the use of the C-SPAN Networks by teachers and their students.

    (Local Cable Company serves the XX-area and offers C-SPAN on Channel XX, C-SPAN2 on Channel XX, and C-SPAN3 on Channel XX. Add local cable company boilerplate about education efforts, etc.)
