Join us as C-SPAN presents Presidential Libraries: History Uncovered — the product of an unprecedented, yearlong search in cooperation with the National Archives for rare and unseen recordings from all 12 of the nation's presidential libraries. President Herbert Hoover In our inaugural program, we'll listen to some of the recordings discovered during our visit to the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa. You can also hear an interview with Don Ritchie, Associate Historian in the U.S. Senate Historical Office. 9/8/2007: WASHINGTON, DC: 1 hr. 28 mins. President Franklin D. Roosevelt As a supplement to C-SPAN's Presidential Library series, C-SPAN Radio offers three of FDR’s Fireside Chats. These include his September 3, 1939, address after Germany invaded Poland to start World War II; his December 9, 1941, address following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor; and his report on the progress of the war from February 23, 1942. In addition, you’ll also hear remarks by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack, as we'll as our interview with Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential historian James MacGregor Burns. 9/15/2007: WASHINGTON, DC: 0 hr. 55 mins. President Harry S. Truman Pres. Harry Truman is the focus of the third installment of the Presidential Library Series, C-SPAN Radio features never-before aired selections of audiotaped interviews with President Truman conducted by historian and author Merle Miller. 9/22/2007: WASHINGTON, DC: 1 hr. 18 mins. President Dwight D. Eisenhower C-SPAN Radio features portions of some of Eisenhower's notable speeches. These include Eisenhower's first Inaugural Address from January 20, 1953; his speech accepting his party's nomination for a second term at the 1956 Republican Convention; his address on the crisis in Little Rock over desegregation of public schools from September 24, 1957; and his Farewell Address from January 17, 1961. In addition, C-SPAN Radio has an interview with historian, author and Gettysburg College professor Michael Birkner and historian David Nichols, who recently published a book on Eisenhower's civil rights record. 9/29/2007: WASHINGTON, DC: 1 hr. 16 mins. President John F. Kennedy Hear recordings from our visit to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, MA. We'll have a December 1951 "Meet The Press" program with then Rep. John Kennedy as guest; and we'll hear a 1956 interview with then Sen. John Kennedy on the television program "Personal Profile." We'll also talk with Michael O'Brien, Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, and author of the book "John F. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas, hear some of the secretly recording phone calls and unfettered behind-the-scenes access to LBJ's administration. His wife, Lady Bird Johnson, an home-movie enthusiast, also filmed many aspects of their personal life.
