House Republicans Propose Slimmer Supplemental

House Appropriations Chair Harold Rogers (R-KY) introduced a $659 million emergency spending bill to address the surge of unaccompanied immigrant minors across the southern border.

It is nearly $2 billion less than the Senate’s proposal, which included money for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system and to fight Western U.S. wildfires. Senate Appropriations Chair Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) announced that legislation earlier this month.

President Obama asked for $3.8 billion earlier this month. White House Spokesman Josh Earnest on Tuesday noted the disparity, but said he received only a "top-line briefing" on the legislation.
