Many news reports and public officials refer to the current refugee crisis in the European Union as the worst since the end of World War II. This week on Reel America, a look back to 1946 with "Seeds of Destiny," a 20-minute War Department film depicting the situation faced by millions of orphaned and homeless children. The graphic scenes of traumatized, hungry, and poorly clothed children recorded by the U.S. Signal Corps helped raise millions of dollars for relief efforts.
