Road to the White House Rewind: 1976 Republican Convention

The 1976 Republican National Convention met from August 16 to August 19 in Kansas City, Missouri. President Gerald Ford and former California Governor Ronald Reagan were in a close race for the nomination, and neither had a majority of delegates when the convention began. This week, we air highlights of CBS News coverage from the last contested GOP convention. From August 17, 1976, we'll see delegates debate a rule proposed by the Reagan camp requiring Ford to name his vice president before voting began to name the party's presidential nominee. And from August 19, 1976, we'll show Ford's speech accepting his party's nomination, and remarks by Ronald Reagan.

American History TV will also simulcast C-SPAN's Washington Journal Sunday from 9 to 10am ET with guest Craig Shirley, Author, "Reagan's Revolution: The Untold Story of the Campaign That Started It All"

Saturday 8pm & midnight ET
