From Classroom Teachers | General ideas for using clips
Campaign specific Studies report the public does not like negative campaigning, yet evidence shows people are swayed by it. Why is that? Recent reports say that John Kerry has done more "negative" campaigning by attacking his opponent's record. Why? Is this an effective technique? Does the clip show negative campaigning?
Media literacy Does the transcript of Kerry's speech show that he talked about his own proposed programs for the economy? Do the newspaper reports cover this portion of the speech? What do the articles provide that watching Kerry's speech alone does not? How can voters thoroughly investigate the proposals and claims candidates make in their speeches?
More ideas Consider the context of the speech. How do the economic conditions in Michigan compare to the rest of the country? Are jobs an issue in this campaign? AND Consider the phrase "ownership society". How do both candidates use the phrase for different purposes?
