From Classroom Teachers   | General ideas for using clips
  • Campaign specific Does Prime Minister Allawi's perspective on Iraq more closely align with that of candidate George W. Bush or John Kerry? Could Mr. Allawi's speech be considered a "campaign" appearance? What criticisms has John Kerry been making this week about U.S. policy in Iraq? How does this clip illustrate the opportunities an incumbent president has to amplify his campaign messages?
  • Media literacy Is Allawi's view of the state of Iraq credible? Why or why not? Who might give an alternative point of view? How do the two newspaper accounts differ? How are they alike? Who publishes each of the newspapers? What are the best sources for assessing conditions in Iraq?
  • More ideas Why did Prime Minister Allawi address Congress? What role does Congress play in foreign policy? in Iraq?
