From Classroom Teachers   | General ideas for using clips
  • Campaign specific  Why is the result of the election in Ohio so important? What is a “provisional ballot?” Why is there a need for a provisional ballot? What accusations are surfacing regarding partisan influence of the voting process in this election? What are the merits of these accusations? What organizations pursue such claims into the courts? Describe the differences in approach that the Republicans and Democrats are taking in their efforts to ensure fair voting results. How does Lamis describe the effect of youth vote in this election? What does Lamis suggest as the solution for two-time voters?
  • Media literacy   Why is Ohio being called the “Florida” of 2004 election? What happened in Florida in 2000? Has “voter suppression” been part of American history, or is it imagined on the part of Democrats? What evidence do we have either for voter suppression, or creation of stories regarding voter suppression?
  • More ideas     Do you agree or disagree with the decision in Ohio? Why or why not? How can the results of the election change policy? Elections are managed by individual states. Discuss the pluses and minuses of such an arrangement. Should there be a national law regarding the election process? What might be the opposition to such standards?
