George W. Bush is currently the 43rd president. If he is re-elected in 2004 to a second consecutive presidential term, he will still be the 43rd president. When a president runs for a second consecutive term and wins, his "number" remains the same. However, when a president serves two non-consecutive terms, he has two different numbers identifying his two different terms.
