Objectives Students will evaluate the validity of Roosevelt being labeled "the first modern president." Students will evaluate Roosevelt's approach to race relations and the significance of his meeting with Booker T. Washington. Before Viewing C-SPAN Introduce students to some of the other causes of the Progressives. Conservation: Theodore Roosevelt was the first president to take action toward conservation of the environment. Race Relations: Theodore Roosevelt was president in the aftermath of the Plessy vs. Ferguson decision & Jim Crow laws.
