Identify your learning objective. What is your goal in showing a particular C-SPAN clip?
View selected segments prior to showing to students. Provide students with the context of the video and keep clips short.
Prepare and deliver a "before viewing" activity that will help you meet a specific learning objective.
Tell students they will be active and critical viewers of the segment. Students should lean forward (no slumping!) when the clip begins. Keep the lights on and minimize other distractions! A "while viewing" activity could be as simple as taking notes.
Choose an "after viewing" activity to give students the opportunity to take what they have seen and apply it to the big picture (remember your learning objective!)
