Federal Trade Commissioner Discusses Privacy Issues

Federal Trade Commission Member Maureen Ohlhausen said Tuesday at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C. that her agency doesn’t need additional authority to pursue concerns over consumer privacy online, citing a recent settlement with several companies over their spying software.

The Commissioner avoided weighing in on Europe’s complaints over Google’s tracking of users, but several reports online indicated that Google could be hit with antitrust case by the FTC before the end of the year.

Prior to joining the Commission in April 2012, Ohlhausen was a partner at Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP, where she focused on FTC issues. She previously served at the Commission for 11 years, most recently as Director of the Office of Policy Planning.

Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Harold Furchtgott-Roth moderated the discussion.
