Friday, the life of Former Sen. George McGovern (D-SD) was celebrated at a funeral service in the Mary Sommervold Hall at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Sciences, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Speakers at this memorial for the 1972 presidential candidate included Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and former Senator Tom Daschle (D-SD).
McGovern, who lost the 1972 campaign to then-president Richard M. Nixon, died in a Sioux Falls hospice last Sunday, October 21, at the age of 90.
Yesterday, Vice President Joe Biden was one of the dignitaries who spoke at a prayer service for the late senator at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls.
At a later date, Sen. McGovern will be laid to rest during a private family interment in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, DC.
