Heritage Foundation Examines Direction of the New Chinese Gov't

The Heritage Foundation hosted a discussion on the economic and security direction of the new Chinese government.

A new regime will take power in China on November 8 and rule for the next ten years. There were notable changes with the last two transitions, in 1992 and 2002, and panelists will discuss what changes might take place this November.

Cheng Li, Brookings Institution John L. Thornton China Center director of research; Chris Yung, National Defense University senior research fellow; and Dean Cheng, Heritage Foundation Asian Studies Center research fellow;  participated in the panel on politics and security.

Speakers in the second panel on economics included: Peterson Institute for International Economics senior fellow Arvind Subramanian; Melanie Hart, Center for American Progress policy analyst; and Heritage Foundation senior research fellow Derek Scissors.
