Pres. Karzai Address on U.S.-Afghanistan Relations

Washington, DC
Friday, January 11, 2013

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai addressed an audience at Georgetown University on Friday about Afghanistan-U.S. policy. Karzai arrived in the Washington area Monday and also met with President Obama on Friday.

Accompanied by senior members of his administration, Karzai had meetings earlier in the week with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Presidents Obama and Karzai met at the White House to discuss the future of Afghanistan beyond the 2014 U.S. troop withdrawal. At a joint press conference following the meeting, President Obama said U.S. forces in Afghanistan will transition to a supporting and training role starting this Spring, but that no final decision has been made about the pace of troop withdrawals.

Karzai first came to Georgetown University in 2002 for the Afghanistan America Summit on Recovery and Reconstruction.
