Telephone lines were open for viewer comments on "Paying to Improve America's Infrastructure." The question was based on President Obama's speech in Florida the previous day in which he proposed a plan to pay for building roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. A video clip of that speech was shown. Also shown were images of a recent national and state infrastructure assessment by the American Society of Civil Engineers. A video clip was shown of that day's Republican weekly video address by Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) about the Keystone XL pipeline.

Representative Niki Tsongas on Sexual Assaults in the Military

Representative Niki Tsongas (D-MA) spoke about a variety of topics, including sexual assault in the military, as well as the Keystone XL Pipeline, the investigation into the attack in Benghazi, Libya and her trip to Afghanistan. She expressed concern for women in Afghanistan, in spite of the apparent positive gains over the past several years. She argued that Afghan women may lose some of these gains as the U.S. continues its diplomatic efforts to push the Afghan government to reconcile with the Taliban. C-SPAN Radio's Nancy Calo also read news headlines.

Premier Redford on U.S.-Alberta Energy Relations

Alison Redford, the premier of Alberta Province, talked about the Keystone XL pipeline, which would run from Alberta to the Texas coast, the U.S. State Department's recent Supplement Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) examining the pipeline, and the Alberta-U.S. energy relationship. She described efforts to curb pollution from tar sands oil production, but said that tar sands production would not slow down if the pipeline was not extended to the Gulf of Mexico. After her remarks she was interviewed by Daniel Yergin and responded to questions submitted by members of the audience. She was interrupted by protestors several times.
