The Clinton administration held an event to emphasize the importance of Senate approval of NATO expansion. President Clinton said that the inclusion of Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic would help support these new democracies and decrease regional tensions. He also urged the Senate to approve the treaty with no conditions, especially a freeze on allowing new members for three years, sponsored by Senators Warner and Moynihan among others. close
