Law Professor William Van Alstyne spoke about the Court’s interpretations of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments and other legislative acts of Reconstruction until the Plessy v. Ferguson case in 1896. He focused on the ambivalence of the Court’s decisions and the ambiguity of these laws which allowed continued violation of civil rights.
