Scientists and conservationists briefed reporters on the 1997 World Conservation Union Red List of Threatened Plants report. The report concludes that one in eight vascular plants will soon be extinct and one in four in North America. Participants stressed that botanic diversity is important to mammal ecology and to medicinal production. They also noted that conservation can accomplish much in preventing many of these species from disappearing. close
