Over 3,000 members of prisoner of war associations and others gathered to celebrate the opening of the National Prisoner of War Museum in Andersonville, GA, the site of a prison camp for Union prisoners during the Civil War. In his speech, Senator John McCain said that prisoners of war are examples of human dignity and the strength of human character. The 10,000 square foot exhibit combines interactive media, letters, and other memorabilia from the estimated 800,000 U.S. prisoners of war since the American Revolution to emphasize the common experiences of captivity. close
