Telephone lines were open for viewer comments following President Obama’s announcement that he plans to keep 5,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan through 2017. He said his decision came after consulting with Afghan leaders, his national security team and U.S. commanders. The president said U.S. troops would continue to serve a non-combat role, training and assisting Afghan forces. close
