Bush announced that the committee would advise him on whether he should seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He said that his responsibilities as governor of Texas would not permit him to travel to primary and caucus states until the summer. Following his announcement, each member of the committee made statements in support of his candidacy. Governor Bush then answered questions from the assembled press.
