The Passenger Bill of Rights and the Passenger Fair Treatment Act are the bills being considered in this hearing. In the first panel, two passengers talked about the poor treatment they received from certain airlines when travelling with them. In the second panel, Ms. McFadden outlined the administration’s proposal called the Airline Passenger Fair Treatment Act. She mentioned that true competition is the best protection for airline passengers. She also commented on the most common airline passenger complaints to the Department of Transportation. In the third panel, the panelists talked about the concerns of the airlines and travel agents in response to legislation and the passenger complaints. Ms. Hallett explained that some delays and difficulties are beyond the control of the airlines. Mr. Silbergeld said that the Consumers Union supports the Passenger Bill of Rights and made suggestions of what the bill should include for the consumer. close
