Following a closed door meeting, the Senate Armed Services Committee announced hearings about the allegations of espionage at the Los Alamos Laboratory. Committee members talked about the committee’s agenda for the hearings to assess the damage to U.S. national security. Energy Secretary Bill Richardson stated that the Clinton administration will cooperate with all inquiries from the Congress on this issue. He also said that the administration has taken measures to correct the problem. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) mentioned that there is a need for tighter security at all government laboratories. Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) said that there is no partisan division on this topic. close
