In an excerpt from the House, members debate an amendment to H.R.770, the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1989. There is a final hour of general debate, followed by consideration and passage of the Gordon substitute amendment. This amendment limits unpaid leave to 12 weeks per year and would permanently exempt firms with fewer than 50 employees. The bill passed on a vote of 237-187. close
