In his first appearance before the committee, Assistant Attorney General John Dunne presents the 1991 budget request for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. The request seeks additional staff and funds totalling $39,324,000 and 481 permanent positions. This is an increase of $4,317,000 and 63 positions over FY 1990. The increase will be devoted primarily to the need to prepare for and then review the large number of voting rights acts submissions which will follow the 1990 census and to the increased workload created by passage of the amendment to the Fair Housing Act. close
