Having conducted the first government-wide audit, witnesses testified about accountability in federal government spending. Rep. Horn talked about the problem that individual government agencies had in accounting for spending. Rep. Turner showed charts that depicted the progress in the financial reporting of government agencies and the Congress. In the first panel, witnesses spoke about how to continuously improve the ability of federal agencies to manage their finances. They also discussed ways to improve government agency audit reporting. In the second panel, the witnesses talked about the progress made during the last year in financial management in the United States government. close
