Witnesses testified about allegations that nuclear secrets had been leaked to China from U.S. nuclear laboratories. Mr. Trulock testified that, in 1997, two senior Energy Department officials had tried to prevent him from briefing the Energy Secretary and members of Congress about potential espionage at the laboratories. One of the officials was Ms. Moler who testified that she could not recall any such incident despite the fact that a memorandum from Mr. Trulock was found in her safe after she left the department. Later panels testified about the plans to provide greater security at the labs while still allowing foreign scientists to use the facilities. close
