Witnesses testified regarding the fiscal year 2000 budget appropriations for the Veteran Affairs Department. They focused on

the need to continue to provide quality care for veterans and their families. The department needs to support 3.6 million patients with quality care and fund visits to veteran affairs hospitals and clinics. They also discussed the need for funds to conduct research on veterans' illnesses encountered during the Persian Gulf War in order to provide effective care for these patients. They also requested funds to update their technology and provide an electronically-based record filing system to expedite patient claims. close
