President Clinton and other world leaders discussed the global economy and their theory of the “third way” of economic development and democratization. The focus of the discussion was on maintaining a social contract between the government and the people while fostering economic growth and business opportunities. Chancelor Schroeder described the system as a necessarily open one because each culture and society could address the conflict between business interests and social interests differently. After their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
