Participants talked about how to create better behavior and attitudes among the nation’s youth. Secretary Riley talked about what local schools and parents could do to create a better learning environments and to better motivate students. Through a series of anecdotes, Mr. Romer then talked about the importance of reestablishing a sense of community. He was followed by Mr. Bennett who responded to a recent study which showed that a majority of Americans were deeply troubled by youth attitudes and that parents were to blame for the problem. Lastly, Secretary Shalala described the proper role of both the parent and government in addressing the problem. They each took questions from the audience following their presentations. close
