President Clinton opened a summit on youth violence which included gun manufacturers, representatives of the entertainment industry, and other industry representatives. Before he made his opening remarks he offered an apology for the mistaken attack on the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. He then announced that the administration was launching a national campaign to curb youth violence, saying that as part of the campaign he would ask the surgeon general to perform a study on the roots of youth violence. close
