Participants focused on the effects of gun violence on the public health, law enforcement and legislation. They talked about the increase in injuries and deaths from firearms and that by the year 2000 firearms will claim more lives than any other accident or disease. They also examined the methods of control used by law enforcement to control the primary and secondary gun markets. They also stressed that gun legislation has been largely ineffective and that people turn to litigation in the courts rather than wait for new legislation. close
