Senator Simpson, the minority whip, is a member of the Environment

and Public Works Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Veterans Affairs

Committee, and the Special Committee on Aging. He is known for his sense of humor, his speaking and

debating skills, and his strong advocacy of his positions. Senator Simpson was elected majority whip, the second highest leadership

position in the Senate, as a freshman member of Congress in 1979. When

the Republicans lost control of the Senate, he became the minority

whip.

Before becoming a senator, Mr. Simpson was a city attorney in Cody,

Wyoming and served ten years as a member of the Wyoming House. His

father served as governor of Wyoming and as U.S. senator. Senator Simpson is up for reelection in 1990. close
