Congress honored Rosa Parks for her courage when she defied authority by refusing to relinquish her seat on a bus to a white man in 1955 and her advocacy of civil rights since then. Ms. Parks said that she hoped her cause would pass to the nation’s youth and that it would continue until all the people had equal rights. close
