President Reagan delivered his annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. The speech was delayed several days in order to honor and mourn the victims of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. In his remarks he talked about a number of issues including reducing budget deficits, called for a line-item veto, asked Congress to address welfare reform, and spoke about arms reduction and relations with the Soviet Union. close
