President Bush thanked Felix DeWeldon, designer of the Iwo Jima Memorial, for presenting him with a replica of the monument. The president also commented on the June 11, 1990 Supreme Court decision on flag burning and renewed his pledge to push for a constitutional amendment to ban flag desecration. In answering a reporter’s question about free speech, the President stated the Court has determined there are prohibited excesses to free speech and that flag burning should qualify as such. close
