The John Chancellor of the Exchequer, testified before the Treasury Select Committee about the proposed European economic and monetary union. The Chancellor of the Exchequer in the United Kingdom is somewhat akin to the Secretary of the Treasury in the United States. However, the Chancellor also serves as a member of the House of Commons.
