Retiring Representative Lindy Boggs (D-Louisiana) reflected on her nine terms in Congress serving Louisiana’s 2nd District.

Rep. Boggs was elected in 1973 to a seat vacated by her husband

following his disappearance and presumed death in a plane crash.

Representative Hale Boggs was the majority leader at the time, having served continuously in Congress since 1947. She recalled the situation saying, “The governor called an election, and I sort of found myself running. I never made a concise (sic) decision to run.”

Rep. Boggs discussed her life as a descendant of an important political family, her early years in Washington activities, and the

political connections of her family. She also spoke of her own

political career and gave advice for her successor. close
