The Senate passed S. 2924, the Federal Fish Inspection Act, to expand the meat inspection programs of the United States. The Hollings (D-SC)/ Stevens (R-AK) amendment 2431 in the nature of a substitute was rejected. The Senate continued consideration of H.R. 5311, making appropriations for the District of Columbia. The Senate began consideration of S. 1224 to amend the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act. The Senate disagreed to House amendments to S. 566, the National Affordable Housing Act. A motion was entered to close further debate on the motion to proceed. A vote on the cloture motion will occur on Friday, September 14. A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing for the consideration of S. 1511, to amend the Age Discrimination Act of 1967 to clarify the protections given to older individuals in regard to employee benefit plans.
