Chairman Greenspan talked about the readiness of financial markets for the year 2000 computer problem. He stated that although many financial institutions are well prepared for the problem, “we cannot expect perfection,” and there will be some problems. Following Chairman Greenspan’s remarks, Federal Reserve Board officials discussed the systems of the banking industry that are in danger of being the most adversely affected by the problem and how they are dealing with it. They stated that the widely held public perception of the banking industry as the most prepared industry for the problem is largely well deserved, and answered questions from the audience. close
