Mr. Hantman acted as master of ceremonies and introduced the speakers. Deputy Secretary Rominger spoke on behalf of Agriculture Secretary Glickman. Governor Thompson spoke, saying that the 60-foot white spruce used as the Capitol Christmas tree was from Wisconsin. The U.S. Army Band, the Congressional Choir and the Milwaukee YMCA Boys Choir provided music. House Speaker Hastert, accompanied by eleven children from Wisconsin, threw the switch to light the tree. close
