After an introduction by Professor Ogletree, Justice Breyer described how the U.S. Supreme Court selects and decides cases. He also talked about how the Supreme Court justices see their joint task as interpreting federal law, not correcting lower court decisions. Following his remarks he responded to questions from the law students. Afterwards the former Cambridge mayor and an officer of the Black Law Students Association presented commemorative plaques to Justice Breyer. close
