Mr. Klein discussed his book on the America Online and Time Warner merger, Stealing Time: Steve Case, Jerry Levin, and the Collapse of AOL Time Warner, published by Simon and Schuster. In January 2000, AOL bought Time Warner for $183 billion in stock. The merger of the country’s number one Internet company and the parent company of Warner Brothers, HBO, CNN and Time magazine was set to create the largest media company in the world. However, three years later, many of the top executives behind the merger had resigned and the U.S. government had begun two investigations into its business dealings. According to Mr. Klein, the company had also booked at least $190 million in revenue improperly. After his presentation Mr. Klein answered audience members' questions. close
