Chairman Greenspan spoke about the state of the economy. Among the issues he addressed were the threat of inflation, the Federal Reserve’s decisions to raise interest rates, and the threat posed by high fuel costs. He also said that budget surpluses should be applied to the national debt.

President Clinton introduced Chairman Greenspan’s remarks, which opened the afternoon session of the White House Conference on the New Economy. close
