Officials opened a national conference on nutrition and said that they hoped to develop a national action plan to combat obesity. Among the other initiatives they addressed were placing nutrition labels on meat and poultry products, improving food stamp programs, and improving school lunch programs. As part of the presentation a taped address by President Clinton was shown.
At the beginning of Secretary Glickman’s speech an animal rights protester shouted and threw a pie at him before being forcibly removed from the stage. close
