Secretary Richardson and other Energy Department officials testified about security concerns at nuclear weapons research facilities following the loss and reappearance of two hard drives containing nuclear secrets at Los Alamos National Laboratories. Senators from both parties criticized Mr. Richardson for several lapses in security at the laboratory, with some calling for his resignation. Mr. Richardson and others acknowledged the seriousness of the problem, but said that investigations had revealed no evidence of espionage. They also pointed to a culture clash between scientists and security officials as the root of the problem. close
