Child Support Distribution Act of 2000: The House passed H.R. 4678, to provide more child support money to families leaving welfare, to simplify the rules governing the assignment and distribution of child support collected by States on behalf of children, to improve the collection of child support, and to promote marriage by a yea and nay vote of 405 yeas to 18 nays, Roll No. 457.

Death Tax Elimination Act of 2000--Veto Override: The House failed to override the President’s veto of H.R. 8, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to phaseout the estate and gift taxes over a 10-year period by a \2/3\ yea and nay vote of 274 yeas to 157 nays, Roll No. 458. Subsequently, the President’s veto message and the bill were referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Suspension--Railroad Retirement and Survivors' Improvement Act of 2000: The House agreed to suspend the rules and pass H.R. 4844, to modernize the financing of the railroad retirement system and to provide enhanced benefits to employees and beneficiaries by a yea and nay vote of 391 yeas to 25 nays, Roll No. 459. Earlier, agreed by unanimous consent to consider the bill under suspension of the rules.
