Patricia Stephens Due and her daughter Tananarive Due talked about their book Freedom in the Family: A Mother-Daughter Memoir of the Fight for Civil Rights, published by One World. Patricia Stephens Due is a civil rights activist who in 1960 opted to serve time in jail rather than pay her fine for sitting at a Woolworth’s lunch counter with fellow Florida A. and M. University students. This book chronicles Due’s subsequent civil rights efforts in her native Florida and elsewhere, with her husband John Due, a civil rights lawyer. Her daughter Tananarive is a novelist who adds her reflections on a life of activism. After the presentation the authors answered questions from members of the audience. close
